Sika Sikaflex-554 Elastic STP Adhesive for Assembly 300 ml

Sikaflex-554 is a professional one-component elastic adhesive with STP technology (silan-terminated polymer), developed by Sika for bonding large components and for industrial assembly applications.

It is particularly suitable for creating elastic bonds resistant to dynamic stress, vibrations, and weathering.

Sikaflex-554 offers good adhesion to a wide variety of materials with minimal pre-treatment and is particularly suitable for:

• Aluminum
• Metals
• Steel sheets
• Metal primers
• Painted surfaces
• Ceramic materials
• Some plastics

Thanks to its high elasticity, it is particularly suitable for assemblies in which the bonded components may be subjected to movement, vibrations, and dynamic stress.

The formulation is free from solvents, isocyanates, phthalates, and PVC and offers excellent resistance to weathering.

Sikaflex-554 cures through atmospheric moisture and can be applied with standard manual, pneumatic, or electric piston guns.

Surface preparation

The surfaces to be bonded must be:

Clean
Dry
Free of grease
Free of oil
Free of dust
Free of contaminants

Pre-treatment depends on the type of material to be bonded.

Sika recommends verifying the correct surface preparation system according to the specific substrate and carrying out tests on the original materials before final application.

Application

Sikaflex-554 can be applied with:

Manual piston gun
Pneumatic gun
Electric gun

To obtain a uniform thickness of the bond line, Sika recommends applying the adhesive in a triangular bead.

The application temperature of the product and the ambient temperature must be between:

+5°C and +40°C

The optimal temperature of the substrate and the adhesive is between:

+15°C and +25°C

The parts to be bonded must be assembled within the product's open time.

Do not join the parts once a skin has already formed on the adhesive surface.

Working times

At +23°C and 50% relative humidity:

Open time: approx. 20 minutes
Skin formation time: approx. 25 minutes

High temperatures and higher humidity can significantly reduce the open time.

Sikaflex-554 cures by reacting with atmospheric moisture; at low temperatures, polymerization may therefore proceed more slowly.

Chemical resistance

Sikaflex-554 is generally resistant to:

Fresh water
Seawater
Diluted acids
Diluted caustic solutions

It has temporary resistance to:

Fuels
Mineral oils
Greases
Vegetable and animal oils

It is not resistant to organic acids, glycol alcohol, concentrated mineral acids, concentrated caustic solutions, and solvents.

Cleaning

Sikaflex-554 that has not yet cured can be removed from tools and equipment using Sika Remover-208 or a suitable solvent.

Once cured, the product can only be removed mechanically.

Do not use solvents on skin.

Sikaflex-554 in cartridge has an indicative shelf life of:

12 months

Store at a temperature below +25°C, according to Sika instructions.

Do not disperse the product, residues, or packaging into the environment.
