IBS Polaris is a self-polishing antifouling paint designed to protect boat hulls from marine biofouling, preventing the formation and adhesion of marine organisms while the boat remains in the water.
It is suitable for boats with low and medium speeds, up to around 20-25 knots. Its special formulation and the combination of biocides with a synergistic action ensure effective antifouling performance over time.
The self-polishing technology of IBS Polaris allows the antifouling layer to wear down functionally and gradually during the boat’s use in water. This helps limit, over time, the buildup of the various antifouling layers on the hull.
A particularly important feature of Polaris is the absence of cuprous oxide: for this reason, the antifouling is also compatible with aluminium hulls.
With proper preparation and the correct priming cycle, it can be used on different types of hull, including aluminium, steel, wood and gelcoat.
IBS Polaris can be applied by roller, brush, conventional spray, or airless system.
The finish is satin and it is available in 750 ml format in White, Red, Light Blue, Sea Blue and Black.
Polaris also meets the requirements of the IMO AFS Convention and Regulation (EC) No. 782/2003 on antifouling systems and is certified by the RINA body.

IBS Polaris contains heavy pigments that may settle at the bottom of the container. Before use, therefore, mix the product thoroughly until fully homogeneous.
After any dilution, let the product stand for about 5-10 minutes to allow the air incorporated during mixing to escape.
Polaris is ready to use. When necessary, it can be diluted with SINT 400 D Thinner:
Spray or airless: maximum 0-10%
Roller or brush: maximum 0-5%
Apply at least 2 coats of IBS Polaris, observing an indicative thickness of 60 µm dry per coat, for a typical total thickness of about 120 µm dry.
Wait at least 12 hours between coats at +20°C.
At +25°C the product is touch dry after approximately 2-3 hours.
The ambient temperature during application must be between +5°C and +35°C. The substrate temperature must be between +5°C and +40°C and in any case kept at least 3-5°C above the dew point.
Preparation based on the surface:
New gelcoat: dry sand with P120-P180 paper, thoroughly remove dust, grease, oil, and contaminants, and apply the specified priming cycle before the antifouling coat.
Aluminium: properly roughen the surface, remove dust and residues, and apply the correct anti-corrosion and priming cycle before Polaris.
Steel: remove rust, scale, dust, and contaminants and proceed with an appropriate anti-corrosion cycle before applying the antifouling coat.
Wood: the substrate must be dry, seasoned, and clean, and must be prepared using the protective cycle specified for wood.
Hull already treated with antifouling: if the old coating is adherent and in good condition, wash thoroughly with fresh water and allow to dry. If the nature of the previous antifouling is unknown, use a suitable tie coat according to the specified IBS cycle.
If the previous antifouling is deteriorated or not adherent, remove the compromised parts and restore the cycle correctly before applying Polaris.
Times before launching:
Wait at least 48 hours after application before launching.
Polaris is sensitive to direct exposure to UV rays. If more than 72 hours pass from the last coat before launching, it is necessary to protect the painted area from direct exposure or keep the boat under cover.
The maximum indicated time before launching is 1 month. In the case of prolonged storage, the application of an additional touch-up coat is recommended.
Product residues and contaminated packaging must be handled and disposed of in compliance with current regulations, following the instructions provided in the product Safety Data Sheet.
For completely empty packaging, check the environmental instructions on the package and the collection methods provided by your municipality or local waste management provider.
Do not reuse the packaging for any other purpose.
