IBS Helicestop A.F. is a hard-matrix, high-adhesion antifouling coating specifically designed to protect propellers, stern drives, shafts, and flaps on boats from marine biofouling.
The formulation is designed to provide high resistance to the heavy stresses these components are subjected to during navigation. The combination of special biocides with synergistic action ensures effective long-lasting antifouling performance.
Unlike traditional antifouling coatings intended for the hull, IBS Helicestop A.F. is specifically formulated for components such as propellers and stern drives, where high adhesion and mechanical resistance are required.
To achieve proper adhesion on metal substrates, Helicestop A.F. must be applied to surfaces that have been properly prepared and primed with IBS Helicestop Primer.
The IBS Helicestop Primer + Helicestop A.F. system is recommended for the antifouling protection of metal boat components such as propellers, stern drives, shafts, and flaps.
Helicestop A.F. can be applied by brush, roller, or conventional spray. To achieve the specified protective thickness, at least two coats are recommended.
The Volvo Grey colour is particularly suitable when you want to maintain a grey finish on immersed boat components.

New metal surfaces, never painted or brought back to bare metal, must be properly roughened and then primed with IBS Helicestop Primer.
On steel: when possible, sandblast to at least Sa 2.5 in accordance with ISO 8501/1. Alternatively, completely remove rust and scale and roughen using a mechanical brush or abrasive disc. Carefully remove all dust and immediately apply IBS Helicestop Primer.
On other metal alloys: roughen using P80-P100 abrasive disc or paper, carefully remove dust, and proceed with IBS Helicestop Primer.
After priming, observe the relevant recoating times and apply at least 2 coats of IBS Helicestop A.F.
On surfaces already treated with Helicestop A.F. and in good condition: wash thoroughly with fresh water, allow to dry, and roughen with P120-P180 abrasive disc or paper. Then apply at least 2 new coats of Helicestop A.F.
If the previous paint system is deteriorated or non-adherent, remove it down to the metal and repeat the cycle specified for a new surface.
Product preparation
IBS Helicestop A.F. contains heavy pigments that may settle at the bottom of the container. Before use, mix the product thoroughly until it is completely homogenised.
After any dilution, let the mixture rest for about 5-10 minutes before application.
Application and dilution
The product is ready to use and can be applied with:
Brush
Roller
Conventional spray
When necessary, use IBS Diluente SINT 400 D.
Indicative maximum dilution:
Spray: 5-15%
Roller or brush: 0-10%
Apply at least 2 coats of approximately 60 µm dry each, to obtain a typical overall thickness of approximately 120 µm dry.
The theoretical coverage is approximately 8.3 m²/l per coat at a dry film thickness of 60 µm.
Drying and launching
At +25°C:
Touch dry: approximately 2-3 hours
At +20°C:
Recoatable: minimum 12 hours
Launching: minimum 72 hours
Maximum indicated time for launching: 1 month
The ambient temperature during application must be between +5°C and +35°C.
The substrate temperature must be between +5°C and +40°C and in any case kept at least 3-5°C above the dew point.
After 72 hours from the application of the last coat, if the boat is not launched, protect the painted area from direct exposure to UV rays and weathering, or keep the boat under cover.
In case of prolonged storage, an additional touch-up coat may be necessary before putting the boat into service.
Product residues and contaminated packaging must be handled and disposed of in compliance with current regulations, following the instructions provided in the Safety Data Sheet.
For completely empty packaging, check the environmental instructions shown on the packaging and the collection methods established by your Municipality or local waste management provider.
Do not reuse the packaging for other purposes.
