IBS Bora Bora H.M. is a hard-matrix, copper-based antifouling paint designed to protect boat hulls from marine biofouling.
Unlike self-polishing antifoulings, hard-matrix technology is particularly suitable for fast boats and hulls used in warm seas, where the coating is subjected to more demanding operating conditions.
The special formulation of IBS Bora Bora H.M. and the combination of special biocides with synergistic action ensure effective long-lasting antifouling performance, helping protect the underwater part of the boat from the proliferation of marine organisms.
Bora Bora H.M. contains cuprous oxide.
Important: due to the presence of cuprous oxide, IBS Bora Bora H.M. must not be applied to aluminum hulls, as there is a risk of galvanic currents being triggered.
With proper preparation and the correct priming cycle, it can be used on steel, wood and gelcoat hulls and for maintenance of surfaces previously treated with compatible antifoulings.
The product is ready to use and can be applied by brush, roller, conventional spray, or airless system.
To achieve proper antifouling protection, at least 2 coats are required, with a recommended total thickness of about 120 µm dry.
IBS Bora Bora H.M. is available in 2.5 liters in Red, Sea Blue and Black, with a satin finish.

Before application, the surface must be properly prepared, dry, and free from dust, grease, oil, rust, and other contaminants that could compromise adhesion.
New gelcoat
Dry sand using P120-P180 abrasive paper.
The surface must be completely dry, free from grease, oil, and contaminants, perfectly roughened, and thoroughly dusted off.
Apply the correct priming system and then at least 2 coats of IBS Bora Bora H.M., observing a minimum interval of 12 hours between one coat and the next.
New steel
When possible, prepare the substrate properly by completely removing rust and mill scale by blasting or mechanical processing.
Remove dust and residues and immediately apply a suitable anti-corrosive primer.
Complete the intended protective system and apply at least 2 coats of IBS Bora Bora H.M., observing at least 12 hours between coats.
New wood
The substrate must be dry, seasoned, and perfectly clean.
Proceed with the appropriate single-component or two-component protective system for wood and then finish with at least 2 coats of IBS Bora Bora H.M., applied at least 12 hours apart.
Surfaces already treated with antifouling
If the previous antifouling is sound and in good condition, wash thoroughly with fresh water and allow to dry completely.
If the nature of the previous antifouling is unknown, apply IBS Unicoat CR-A as a tie coat according to the intended system and then at least 2 coats of Bora Bora H.M.
If the previous antifouling is deteriorated or has non-adhering areas, remove the compromised areas and restore the system properly.
In the presence of an old paint system in particularly critical condition, completely remove the previous system down to the substrate and proceed as for a new surface.
Do not apply IBS Bora Bora H.M. on aluminium hulls.
Product preparation
The product contains heavy pigments that may settle at the bottom of the container.
Before use, mix IBS Bora Bora H.M. thoroughly until a perfectly homogeneous product is obtained.
After any dilution, let the mixture rest for about 5-10 minutes to allow the entrained air to escape before application.
Application and dilution
IBS Bora Bora H.M. is ready to use and can be applied by:
Brush
Roller
Conventional spray
Airless spray
When necessary, use IBS SINT 400 D Thinner.
Indicative maximum dilution:
Airless or spray: 0-10%
Roller or brush: 0-5%
Apply at least 2 coats of about 60 µm dry each, obtaining a recommended total thickness of about 120 µm dry.
The theoretical coverage is approximately 9.3 m²/l per coat at a dry film thickness of 60 µm.
Drying and launching
At +25°C:
Touch dry: about 2-3 hours
At +20°C:
Recoating: minimum 12 hours
Launching: minimum 48 hours
Maximum indicated launching time: 1 month
The ambient temperature during application must be between +5°C and +35°C.
The substrate temperature must be between +5°C and +40°C and in any case kept at least 3-5°C above the dew point.
Bora Bora H.M. is sensitive to direct exposure to UV rays. After 72 hours from the last coat, if the boat has not been launched, protect the painted area from direct exposure or keep the boat under cover.
In case of prolonged storage before launching, the application of an additional touch-up coat is recommended.
Product residues and contaminated packaging must be handled and disposed of in compliance with current regulations, following the instructions provided in the Safety Data Sheet.
For completely empty packaging, check the environmental instructions shown on the packaging and the collection methods provided by your Municipality or local waste management operator.
Do not reuse the packaging for other purposes.
