IBS Bora Bora is a self-polishing copper-based antifouling designed to protect boat hulls from marine biofouling.
It is suitable for moderately fast boats, up to approximately 15-20 knots, and combines self-polishing technology with a blend of special biocides with synergistic action to ensure long-lasting antifouling performance.
The self-polishing technology allows the paint layer to wear away gradually and effectively while the boat is in the water. This mechanism helps limit the build-up of multiple layers of old antifouling on the hull over time.
IBS Bora Bora contains cuprous oxide and offers specific protection for the underwater part of the boat.
Important: due to the presence of cuprous oxide, Bora Bora must not be applied to aluminium hulls, as it could encourage galvanic currents to form.
With proper surface preparation and the correct priming system, Bora Bora can be used on steel, wood and gelcoat hulls, as well as for maintenance of surfaces previously treated with compatible antifouling.
The product is ready to use and can be applied by brush, roller, conventional spray, or using an airless system.
To achieve the correct antifouling protection, at least 2 coats are required, with a typical total thickness of about 120 µm dry.
IBS Bora Bora is available in a 2.5 litre format in Red, Black and Sea Blue, with a satin finish.

Before application, the substrate must be properly prepared, dry, and free from dust, grease, oil, and other contaminants that may compromise adhesion.
New gelcoat
Dry sand with P120-P180 paper.
The surface must be completely dry, perfectly roughened, and thoroughly dust-free, as well as free from grease, oil, and other contaminants.
Apply the correct priming cycle and then at least 2 coats of IBS Bora Bora, respecting a minimum interval of 12 hours between coats.
New steel
When possible, properly prepare the substrate by removing rust, mill scale, and contaminants.
After preparation, immediately apply a suitable anti-corrosive primer and complete the specified protective cycle before applying at least 2 coats of IBS Bora Bora.
New wood
The substrate must be dry, seasoned, and clean.
Proceed with the appropriate single-component or two-component protective cycle for wood and then finish with at least 2 coats of IBS Bora Bora, applied at least 12 hours apart.
Surfaces already treated with antifouling
If the previous antifouling is well adhered and in good condition, thoroughly wash the surface with fresh water and allow it to dry completely.
If the nature of the previous antifouling is unknown, use IBS Unicoat CR-A as an intermediate coat according to the specified cycle, before applying at least 2 coats of Bora Bora.
If the old antifouling is deteriorated or has non-adherent areas, remove the compromised sections and restore the cycle properly.
If a previous coating is in particularly critical condition, completely remove the old system down to the substrate and proceed as for a new surface.
Do not apply IBS Bora Bora on aluminium hulls.
Product preparation
IBS Bora Bora contains heavy pigments that may settle at the bottom of the container.
Before use, mix thoroughly until a perfectly homogeneous product is obtained.
After any dilution, let the mixture rest for about 5-10 minutes to allow the air incorporated during mixing to escape.
Application and dilution
The product is ready to use and can be applied by:
Brush
Roller
Conventional spray
Airless spray
When necessary, use IBS Diluente SINT 400 D.
Indicative maximum dilution:
Airless or spray: 0-10%
Roller or brush: 0-5%
Apply at least 2 coats of about 60 µm dry each, obtaining a typical total thickness of about 120 µm dry.
The theoretical coverage is about 9.3 m²/l per coat at a dry thickness of 60 µm.
Drying and launching
At +25°C: Touch dry: about 2-3 hours
At +20°C: Recoatable: minimum 12 hours
Launching:
Minimum: 48 hours
Maximum: 1 month
Bora Bora is sensitive to direct exposure to UV rays. After 72 hours from the application of the last coat, if the boat is not launched, the painted part must be protected from direct exposure or the boat must be kept under cover.
In case of prolonged storage before launching, the application of an additional touch-up coat is recommended.
Product residues and contaminated packaging must be handled and disposed of in compliance with current regulations, following the instructions provided in the Safety Data Sheet.
For completely empty packaging, check the environmental instructions shown on the package and the collection methods provided by your municipality or local waste management provider.
Do not reuse the packaging for any other purpose.
