Employments
Sikasil SG-20 is ideal for bonding structural glazing and other bonding applications where high mechanical performance is required. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions must be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.
Surface preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from any traces of grease, oil and dust. The surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for a lasting bond.
Application
The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 15C and 25C.C.
Sikasil SG-20 can be extruded with manual, pneumatic or electric guns, as well as with pumping systems. For advice on selecting and installing a suitable pumping system, contact the Sika Industry Engineering Department..
Joints must be sized correctly.
The basis for calculating the necessary joint dimensions are the technical values of the adhesive and adjacent building materials, the exposure of the building elements, their construction and size as well as external loads.
Joints deeper than 15mm should be avoided.
Spatolatura and finishing
Processing and finishing must be done within the skin formation time of the sealant or adhesive. When Sikasil SG-20 is applied, press the adhesive onto the sides of the joints to achieve good wettability of the bonding surface. Do not use finishing agents..
Removal
Uncured Sikasil SG-20 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically.e.
Hands and exposed skin should be washed immediately using wipes such as Sika Cleaner-350H cleaning cloths or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin!!
Overpainting
Sikasil SG-20 cannot be painted..
Application Restrictions
The solutions recommended by Sika for bonding structural glass and windows are generally compatible with each other. These solutions consist of products such as Sikasil SG, IG, WS and WT series..
For specific information on compatibility between various Sikasil products and other Sika products, please contact the Sika Industry Technical Department..
To exclude materials affecting Sikasil SG-20, all materials such as gaskets, tapes, fixing blocks, sealants, etc., in direct and indirect contact, must be approved in advance by Sika..
Where two or more different reactive sealants are used, allow the first to harden completely before applying the next.
The above Sika process materials may be used in structural glazing or window bonding applications only after detailed examination and written approval of the corresponding project details by Sika Industry.
