Sikaflex®-529 Evolution is a one-component sprayable sealant based on silane-terminated polymer (STP) that polymerizes upon exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is used for sealing body joints as per production (on surface and bead) for vehicles. It adheres well to all materials commonly used in bodywork, e.g. metal primers and paint coatings, metals, painted plastic, and plastic. When applied, it improves resistance to gravel and other attacks on the bodywork.

Uses

Sikaflex®-529 Evolution is designed for use as a sprayable elastic sealant for sealing joints, overlapping joints, and protection against gravel in collision repair and vehicle body reconstruction. Consult the manufacturer and conduct tests on original substrates before using Sikaflex®-529 Evolution on materials subject to stress cracking. This product is suitable only for use by experienced professional users. Tests with substrates and real conditions must be carried out to ensure adhesion and compatibility of materials.  

Surface preparation

The surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and contaminants.
The surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is essential for a lasting bond. Tips for surface preparation can be found in the current edition of the appropriate Sika® pretreatment table. Please note that these tips are based on experience and should still be verified with tests on original substrates.

Application

Sikaflex®-529 Evolution can be processed between 5 °C and 40 °C, but it is necessary to consider changes in reactivity and application properties.

The optimal temperature for support and sealant is between 15 °C and 25 °C.

Sikaflex®-529 Evolution can be processed with manual, pneumatic, or electric extruders. For spray application, use Sika® Spray dispenser (cartridges) and Sika® Jetflow (unipack). It is necessary to verify the suitability of other dispensers.
