FAQ

How to sand before painting?

  • Cleaning: Before starting, make sure the surface is clean and dry
  • Progressive sanding: Start with a coarser grit (240) to remove any defects, then use a medium grit (320) to even out the surface, and finish with a fine grit (400) to prepare the surface for painting.
  • Movement: Use light circular motions to avoid damaging the surface.

What is the difference between grit 240, 320, and 400?

To choose the right abrasive grit, just follow a simple and progressive logic:

  • coarser grits, like P40–P80, are used to quickly remove material, old paint, or to rough out filler
  • medium grits, between P120 and P240, are ideal for finishing filler and preparing the surface before primer
  • when moving to more delicate work, like dulling the primer or approaching painting, fine grits like P320–P500 are used
  • to achieve a cleaner finish, especially before clear coat, you move to P600–P1000
  • finally, to remove small defects or prepare the surface for polishing, P1500–P3000 are used

The only real rule is to proceed step by step without skipping too large jumps, to avoid scratches that reappear in painting.
